Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will combine four generations of courtesans in the kothas(bordellos) of Lahore’s Heera Mandi. This is the filmmaker’s first foray into the world of the internet.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who just celebrated his 25th anniversary in the industry, will collaborate with Netflix on his next series Heeramandi. The series will look into the lives of courtesans, as well as the hidden cultural reality of Heeramandi, a district in Lahore in pre-Independence India. The show will feature all of the hallmarks of a Bhansali film, including lavish sets, intricate compositions, and a diverse cast of characters. The stories of love, treachery, politics, and succession are all about to be told in Heeramandi.
“Heeramandi is a crucial milestone in my path as a filmmaker,” Bhansali said in a statement. This is an enormous, first-of-its-kind series about Lahore’s courtesans. It’s a big, magnificent, all-encompassing series, so I’m both nervous and delighted to start working on it. I’m looking forward to collaborating with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to a global audience.” Bhansali, who started his career with Khamoshi, has established a name for himself with films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Guzaarish, Goliyon Ke Rasleela: Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat.
Padmaavat, which starred Deepika Padukone, RanveerSingh, and Shahid Kapoor, grossed more over Rs 300 crore at the box office.
“It is a massive saga about the courtesans of Lahore, it is something I was living with for 14 years,” the filmmaker told Variety. It’s a massive and ambitious undertaking.”

On the counterpart Pakistani Artist, Yasir Hussain has voiced his opinion on HeeraMandi’s Netflix collaboration.
“This is in Lahore and the movie is being made by Indians,” stated actor Yasir Hussain on his Instagram Story.
He further went on to say , “Then we’ll say that everything was misrepresented. I’m not sure when we’ll start talking about ourselves, when we’ll start telling our own stories “he penned.
